Combating Sexual Harassment in Community Associations

New York State has a new law which requires all employers in the State to adopt a sexual harassment prevention policy and to provide its employee(s) with sexual harassment prevention training. The law applies to any community associations (condominium, co-op and HOA) that have at least one employee, including part time employees. The written policy must be established and distributed to all employees immediately. The training must be provided by October 9, 2019, and annually thereafter.

If you are a client of our office, we will prepare the policy and complaint form for your community, and we will be conducting training sessions for your employees in our office on the dates and times listed below, free of charge. These sessions will satisfy the training requirements under the new law. Please contact our office, or have your employees contact us, to register for these classes.

In order to insure that community association Board members understand the requirements of the new law and its implications, we will be providing several evening seminars in our office to review the required policy, training and procedures. These seminars will be open to any Board members of community associations on Long Island. Please contact our office to register.

These sessions are open to Board members whether or not you have employees. Attendance is not required by the new law, but we feel they will still be worthwhile. Sexual harassment can occur in a variety of contexts and can result in complications for your community. Becoming acquainted with the NYS Sexual Harassment Prevention Law may benefit your Board and community in a variety of ways.
